Under the sun of Melbourne Sorana played today against local Olivia Rogowska and as I expected Sorana got the crowd against her but yet she played ok during the first set but I saw a Sorana who still struggles with confidence and also I don't think she is at 100% fitness as she still has troubles with an injury. I also knew, it wouldn't be a beautiful match to watch. Hopefully the game of her opponent wasn't great either at all ! Despite some stupid errors : Sorana did it ok to win the 1st set.
But the second set, It was terrible : Sorana couldn't hold her serve : she did it only twice if I good remember and also the fact she hit tons of errors : loads of ball too long or landing in the net , was passive as hell. A set where Sorana was very disappointing. She lost deservedly the second set with 6-2. But at the other side Rogowska's game was better than what she showed in the 1st set.
With one set all and the fact Sori was terrible in the second set, I thought : it's over for but hopefully she proved me wrong by playing better and finaly showing some decent stuff again. The Aussie couldn't answer to Sorana's game but I also think Olivia couldn't hold the level she put during the 2nd set and somehow collapse in front of her own crowd to eventualy lose the set and the match in 3 sets : 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
I'm relieved our Romanian got the much needed win. It was ugly but no 1st round exit again for her : that's the very positive note of the day but for her 2nd round the girl from Targoviste MUST put a much better fight and game if she want having a chance against Alisa Kleybanova. The match will be played tomorrow normaly.
